Dengue Fever
Hi Folks,
The dominant theme of this last week has been my bout of Dengue Fever. I thank the Lord that my brush with this virus was merely a brush, and of the less horrific type! My Dengue was not the hemorrhagic type, for which I am grateful beyond belief. Anyone that doesn't believe that small things may carry great power, has never been bitten by a mosquito carrying Dengue.
The "better type" of Dengue, was bad enough. Dengue is commonly called "break-bone fever", or "bone-crusher disease" here in Nicaragua. I thank God that the name is simply descriptive of the pain involved in contracting the malady, and not indicative of any osteopathic damage. There is no cure for Dengue, it must simply run it's course.
I spent five days flat on my back as my body recovered from this malady. I am now completely recovered, and have been feeling quite my usual self for the last two days, praise God!
Looking back at the last week or so, I began to wonder what it was the God was trying to show me in our ministry. Was my fever a necessary thing to keep me in Managua? What more did God have for us to accomplish in this great city, on the other side of Nicaragua? As it happens we are preparing for the second visit of the ChristWalk Church of God medical team in Puerto Cabezas.
--------------------------
Those of you that follow our blog know that the coming of a team to Puerto Cabezas entails approximately a month or more of work on our part to receive the proper "permisos" from the government here. It takes a considerable effort and quite a lot of time to assemble the proper thickness of blue-stamped paperwork. It is still a belief which I harbor in my heart of hearts, that the governmental yardstick is what is used for final approval. In other words, when the stack of paperwork reaches the proper height, it is approved. There may be a measure of the weight of blue ink stamped upon the papers which is taken into serious consideration as well. grin! Carolyn and I count it as a great privilege to be involved in this fundamentally important ministry of Pastor Jim Chamberlain of the ChristWalk Church of God. We KNOW that this eyeglass ministry is reaching people for God. We have heard repeated MANY TIMES the words "I just want to be able to read my bible" as the eyeglass ministry enabled that most basic need of the devout Christian...the ABILITY to read their bible, through better eyesight.
But, there is important and necessary paperwork involved in acquiring the permissions, which can only be accomplished while here in the capital city of Nicaragua, Managua. We thank God for the privilege of being here, in this place, and having the ability to facilitate ChristWalks ministry efforts in Nicaragua. We beg that you join us in prayer for ANOTHER successful mission trip to Puerto Cabezas by this God-drenched team!
-------------------------
We have decided to keep the travel trailer which we drove here to Nicaragua in Managua for the time-being. I will go in advance of it's arrival to Puerto Cabezas and prepare a place for it there. The travel trailer has held up well to the rigors of the journey here, through Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and now into Nicaragua. The strain has been immense, but the Avion is an extremely well-built trailer, of exceptional quality. The hardest journey lies ahead, as we finalize preparations for the trailers arrival into Puerto Cabezas. The last 301 miles of the trip, from Managua to Puerto Cabezas, will MOST CERTAINLY be the hardest.
We will need our strongest prayer warriors on the job for THAT segment of the journey, soon to come.
Dios le bendiga grandemente a su familia y ministerio.
