The "huelga"
Hi Folks,
So far the "huelga", or "strike" has cost at least two people their lives, one of them eight years old.
Although our house is on the street where the main activity is taking place, we appear to be in no danger. Life is going on as usual for the folks here that AREN'T involved in the demonstration (like us). Construction workers are still plying their trade, taxi drivers are still picking up fares, clothes are still being washed and hung out to dry, etc.
We, the people living in this neighborhood, are still conducting our daily business. We have to insure that we have adequate supplies (we do), and that we are behind locked gates (we are), and that we aren't taking any part in the "huelga" (we aren't).
We are safe, thanks to your prayers and further thanks to the fact that the "huelgistas" are only targeting specific places, the airport, the bodega, and the mayors office, for instance.
We are safe.
And all is well in Puerto Cabezas.
We expect the "huelga" to be over on Monday. We are continuing life normally. We have a baptism planned for tomorrow at Tuapi river.
Please keep the city of Puerto Cabezas in your prayers as we continue to minister to the Indians here. Please keep the country of Nicaragua in your prayer life as the new Sandinista government takes matter more and more into their hands. Please keep our neighborhood in your prayers as we deal with the exhibition of angry people acting under political motivations. Please keep US in your prayers as we continue to minister to, and help to educate the Miskitio Indians.
We just received word this morning that the strike is over, the government has reached an agreement with the strikers. THANK GOD!
On another note, we have some very good friends of ours that are going through an EXTREME trial right now. Please keep them in prayer, they need it badly.
