What a week
It has been a BIG week for us. Several things happened that are worth reporting.
For ONE, I was able to go down to the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club and take the test to earn my Technician's Radio License (I'm a HAM now).
Secondly, we received word from Calmore Williams in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua that the President of Nicaragua has APPROVED our request to be able to import our household goods, and other necessary equipment into Nicaragua TAX FREE! I am eager to see this approval in writing, but in the mean time we are thanking God for this blessing, and passing our thanks along to YOU also, for the prayers.
As Russell Cook mentioned in an email to me this week, we still do have needs, and as always we covet your prayers for these needs. Our need to sell the house in Cleveland, TN is one BIG thing that needs much prayer.
Please pray with us for the safety of Russell, and Connie and the kids as they venture out to Europe to further the artistic goals of their children. We know they will have a GLORIOUS TIME, but it is a new environment for them, and so please keep their journey in prayer. Thank you for that.
I was reminded by Carolyn this week about a short trip we took in Managua from the airport to our hotel (about a 25 minute trip) by taxicab. It was raining (and I mean IT WAS RAINING!) very hard...VERY HARD. It was raining so hard that the streets of the city in some places had literally become lakes. At one point on our journey, and for several miles, the water was actually coming up to within about six inches of the bottom of the cars windows! IT WAS DEEP!
Carolyn and I were both very impressed at the time with the drivers ability to nonchalantly continue the journey through these deep and murky waters. No matter what the depth of the waters was, the driver just kept on going! We were entertaining thoughts of how we would get out of this deluge if the automobile suddenly had enough of this dunking. Well, we made it through the several MILES of water to the hotel safely, but when I remembered that journey, and remembered how impressed I was with the drivers ability, and nonchalance in the face of what WE considered "hazardous" conditions (we were imagining trying to get our suitcases out of the trunk and wading through navel deep water to the nearest high spot)...it made me reflect upon our lives as Christians.
I wonder, if secular people who are facing a decision about Christ's Love, and presence and "reality"...use some of us Christians to lead the way? If perhaps they "weigh" our perceivable lives? And what that perception of each of us IS?
Are WE a "driver" who through God's guidance keeps on trudging through life's deluges, and thereby impressing the people that are watching? Or are we waiting for the waters to recede before we take up our leadership positions? Are people, secular or otherwise, seeing us as "workers", or "watchers". Which would YOU like to be seen as?
We invite you to look at the links below the signature line to visit our website to see exactly what our mission in La Moskitia, Nicaragua is all about. If you visit the "myspace" link, you can also see some videos and pictures, and drop us a note. We welcome that contact.
God bless you, deeply and richly!
